| I liked the atmosphere so much there, and the wonderful German Cuisine, that I jokingly told "PAPA Vierthalter" that all he needed to make the place look authentic Bavarian was woodcarvings. "Ja My Boy ", He said, "You go home and make me some." He knew my art abilities and that I had been doing wood burnings with Oil painted subjects. With that I really got going. I traveled to and from Canada on trips and every where looking for wood carving tools. In my mind, I knew how they should look, but no-one had stocked them since the 30's. Papa Vierthalter steered me to a carving Tool Collector at Roy, Washington he had herd of. That fellow had trained in Europe, decided he couldn't or wouldn't go to the effort of carving, so he just collected tools. I bought five tools that he had in triplicate, or more; some from every country he had been associated with while in the Air Force. I still have those five and use them constantly along with the hundred or more others I've collected myself. Some are 200 years old and really hold an edge. | |
