The Wine Barrel-
This barrel belonged to a Dear Swiss Dairy Farmer Friend, Eddie Schilter of Fife , Washington.

I used to go out to Eddie's Diary farm whenever I could and help with the milking. When the chores were completed, we would sojourn to the far end of the barn where the soil slipped away down to the creek. Going under, you were confronted by large barrels of fermenting wine. There we would share good fellowship and a

snifter or two of the best wine I have ever tasted, and all home grown and concocted.

All the Swiss and Italian Farmers in that area made their own and it was good. This oak keg shown here was Eddie's table setting "Sunday for guests wine barrel." When I moved from Tacoma to Eugene , Oregon, I asked Eddie if he would allow me to carve it. He was pleased to do so, and I took it south with me to Eugene....I filled it with water to keep it sealed, and proceeded to carve it.

Upon entering the house from the shop the first day of carving on it, my wife stared at me and said, "Your Drunk~!" Indeed I was. Snookered up as I have ever been just from inhaling the fumes from that water filled keg. I had a great time carving it and then presenting it back to Eddie for his Sunday Guest's pleasure.

Eddie Died on Christmas Day ten years ago; I still miss the little guy. I carved the Schilter Crest of Arms and the Swiss Flag atop his casket and his son-in-law Tom made the casket. It was our sign of respect and love

This picture gives perspective to the size of the barrel.
