| White Buffalo Woman- A shortened version of the Story as told to me of the White Buffalo Woman. Many years back, before horses, a white Buffalo approached a large Sioux Indian encampment. It was Pure white and totally unlike the standard Buffalo. As it drew closer into the camp, the populace parted to allow it into the center of the lodges. Once there, it suddenly disappeared and in it's place stood a beautiful young woman. She spoke to all, laying down rules to follow and various laws to govern conduct. As she turned to leave, a young warrior, blinded by lust for her laid a hand upon her and he vanished in a puff. She then turned and spoke again, stating they must follow the rules she had given , that hard times were coming for the Native Americans, but when the white Buffalo returned, there would be much cause for rejoicing, then she was gone. A White Buffalo has been Born again I am told, on a Ranch in Northern Minnesota, and many Indians are gathering there. ~~Inyo |
